The Friendliest Town in the South: Tryon, North Carolina

In this episode of Today’s Real Talk, we’re talking all about the town of Tryon, North Carolina and are joined by Tryon’s Town Manager, Zach Ollis. Tryon is known as the friendliest town in the South because of its smalltown feel, friendly people, and excellent amenities. In this episode, we take a closer look at what’s going on with Tryon business-wise, what’s happening within its local real estate market, and what exactly makes Tryon such a friendly place.

Tryon is nestled on the border between North and South Carolina, right at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Although Tryon is a small town, it’s just a short drive to Asheville, so you can still access all the big-city amenities. Tryon originally developed in conjunction with the railroad, so all of its historic buildings are on one side of the road.

Most of Tryon’s business sector revolves around the retirement community. As Tryon has grown and developed in recent years, many new restaurants, art galleries, and other businesses that cater to retirees and vacationers have popped up. Tryon also has a strong equestrian community, and today, the U.S. Olympic equestrian team even trains here because of all the rolling hills.

We go into an overview of the town budget, the second home market in Tryon, property sales and tax, personnel funding, and more during this episode, giving you a closer look into what makes this town so great and why people keep moving here. Give this episode a listen when you get a chance and take a deep dive into all the things that have turned Tyron into the friendly community it is today.
